Humans have always tried to sleep in the most comfortable position
possible, the earliest attempts at a bed started out as piles of fern or
straw. The bed has certainly come along since then and there are now
many variations for us to choose from, to make sure we get the best
sleep possible.
The variations cover a wide range of options and
they can be anything from a sprung base to a divan base or an
orthopaedic mattress to a water filled mattress. Everyone generally has a
different opinion of what they would call a good night's sleep but I
will try to give you an insight in to a couple of the different types.
As
I mentioned above there are different types of frames or bases as they
are sometimes referred, one of the most common would be the sprung
slatted bed. This is one of the most popular due to its cheap
manufacturing costs and the ease in which this style of bed frame can be
distributed. The base will consist of a wooden or metal frame with
slats of bowed wood running across the width of the frame; this provides
a comfortable base with an extra spring and support.
Another
popular bed base is a divan. The divan bed base typically comes in two
sections and has drawers in the hollow base to provide extra storage.
The divan base has no slats running the width of the bed and just
consists of a wooden frame covered in fabric, which is what the mattress
will lay on top of.
When it comes to mattresses there is a
massive variety on the market all claiming to do fulfil different tasks.
A couple of examples of the different types of mattresses would be open
spring mattress, pocket spring mattress and latex and memory foam. All
of these have a slightly different way of providing support and comfort
to a person whilst sleeping.
A big part of the bed industry which
is still growing quickly is adjustable beds. Many company's offer only
adjustable beds and there are great features and benefits to having an
adjustable bed. Some of the features include adjustment of the bed from a
laying position to a sitting position, as well as being able to raise
the feet in to a higher position than the body. The main benefit to
being able to adjust your position is that it can often provide relief
from pain caused by a certain ailment or medical condition.
